University of Arizona Partners with Oman Government on Leadership Development Program

On March 5, 2021, the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management’s Executive Education program announced it had been awarded a contract by the Oman Ministry of Finance TAWAZUN Program to provide leadership development services to the government of Oman.

Oman selected Eller College of Management from 25 academic institutions that submitted proposals. The partnership between the school and the Institute of Public Administration is expected to last five years, and include a leadership preparation program, a train-the-trainer program, and a leadership development center. Through this partnership, Oman and its Institute for Public Administration will become a regional hub for leadership programming, thought leadership, and research. The first phase of the project focuses on developing leadership and management capabilities for mid-level public-sector employees throughout the Omani government.

Ultimately, Eller Executive Education and the Institute of Public Administration hope to work together to create a space in which government employees can learn for each other and test new ideas. Joe Carella, Assistant Dean for Eller Executive Education, says, “Oman is a booming, growing country with a large population under the age of 25, and the Institute of Public Administration plays an important role in advancing the competitiveness of its economy.” He adds, “This program will ensure public-sector employees have the right capabilities to develop the infrastructure of the country moving forward.”
