The Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) announced last week that it will offer a new executive education program, Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation and Strategic Impact, focused on understanding and utilizing the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Designed for senior-level executives, policymakers, and nonprofit leaders who are interested in harnessing the power of AI; decision-makers who work with internal or external technology teams; and others with little or no experience in artificial intelligence, the five-day Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation and Strategic Impact program, a collaboration between Stanford GSB and the new Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, will take place at Stanford GSB August 25 – 30, 2019 to help leaders understand the impact AI can have on organizations and society. It will include an overview of AI technologies currently in use as well as their applications, opportunities, implications, and limitations. Participants will also learn strategies and frameworks for leveraging these technologies for competitive advantage.

Faculty Director and Stanford GSB Economics Professor Paul Oyer says, “AI is quickly becoming a critical tool in every industry. Detailed knowledge of their own organizations and industries will always make top managers critical, but forward-looking executives need to figure out how to use AI in a manner that complements their skills. AI without relevant business and organizational expertise is useless. On the other hand, a savvy organization can combine the skills and knowledge they already have with AI tools to build competitive advantage and to stay on the technical frontier. The emphasis of our program is broadening the horizons of successful leaders to get a vision for how AI can help take their organizations to the next level.”

Faculty members from Stanford GSB, Stanford School of Engineering, Stanford Law School, Stanford School of Medicine, and Stanford School of Humanities and Science will join for the first time to share research on AI and its impact.
