MIT Professor to Present Course on Radical Innovation in Dubai

 

Dr. Sanjay Sarma, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of Digital Learning at MIT, will lead a new course on Radical Innovation in Dubai Internet City.

The course is held in partnership with Eruditis Executive Education and will explore innovation, with particular attention to the Middle East. Participants will be technical leaders, executives, product/company strategists, and product heads. The course is split into eight sessions, plus individual interactions with Dr. Sarma.

The course will cover:

– Identifying and evaluating new innovative products and businesses

– Reviewing and understanding methods of creating innovation groups and cultures

– Formulating corporate invention and new product generation plans

– Dealing with critical challenges in technology, product, sales, marketing, and finance

– Understanding legalities and IP requirements, and setting up an intellectual property strategy

– Growing a portfolio of innovative products and businesses

In addition to being a professor at MIT, Dr. Sarma was one of the founders of the Auto-ID Center, which developed many of the standards and technical concepts of Radio Frequency Identification. Over 1,000 companies use these standards today. He studied both Operations and Automation, and has over 75 publications.

Guest speaker Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone, will join Dr. Sarma in presenting the course topics. Al Suwaidi has helped to drive the growth of the technology start-up industry in Dubai and has implemented strategies for growth in developing a distinctive business park proposition. Previously, he served as the Director of Business for Dubai Internet City (home to many Fortune 500 companies) and also for Dubai Outsource Zone.

The course will take place at Fairmont The Palm in Dubai on August 4 – 5, 2014. The cost is $2,000 USD, and attendees will receive a Certificate of Participation from MIT Professional Education.
