Agilent Technologies to Build New Facility in Colorado, Increasing Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Capacity

Agilent Technologies announced earlier this month that it has acquired 20 acres in Weld County, Colorado, which it plans to use to build a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The addition of this facility, which will be located in Frederick, Colorado, will more than double Agilent’s commercial manufacturing capacity for nucleic acid active pharmaceutical ingredients.

According to Skip Thune, General Manager of Agilent’s Nucleic Acids Solutions Division, “The products manufactured at this site will be used by our customers to improve the lives of patients suffering from a variety of diseases. At Agilent, we are committed to meeting the ever-increasing needs of our customers for oligonucleotides.” Oligonucleotides (short DNA and RNA molecules) may have the potential to treat diseases including cancer, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, and others.

Thune says the expansion will add 150 to 200 new, permanent, high-paying jobs. Gov. John Hickenlooper commented, “Colorado is thrilled to welcome Agilent Technologies to the state. This expansion will enhance Colorado’s skilled workforce and dedication to research and development firms. We look forward to supporting Agilent’s innovative work in our state.”

Mike Freeman, Chairman of the Weld County Commissioners, calls the project a huge win for the Town of Frederick, Weld County, and Northern Colorado, noting that it “adds diversification to our thriving economic base, plus significant new jobs and tax base. It also showcases what an amazing growth region Northern Colorado is due to the diverse workforce and business-friendly environment.”

Tony Carey, Frederick Mayor, anticipates that the impact of new high-paying jobs will trigger a positive ripple throughout the local economy.
