MIT Sloan’s New Neuroscience for Leadership Course

 

ACI partner MIT Sloan School of Business announces a cutting-edge course on neuroscience for executive leaders. Neuroscience for Leadership aims to help senior-level executives understand how the brain works and how to leverage this knowledge in their businesses. Participants will learn how to understand and change mental processes, thereby improving their effectiveness as a leader.

Through lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises, executives will learn about their agility and resistance as a leader, diversity of thought and impact on others, creating conditions for success by shifting from a culture of fixed mindset toward a growth mindset, and innovating into the future.

Issues to be examined include:

– Meta cognition and the “Mind-Brain-Relationships Triangle”

– Neuroplasticity in adult brains

– Fixed and growth mindsets

– Human emotions and contagion of stress

– Reinforcement of messages using neuroscience

Anticipated results are:

– Raised awareness of existing leadership behavioral patterns

– Focused attention on behaviors and actions promoting resilience

– Knowledge of how to use neuroscience to embed behavior change

Faculty members include MIT’s own Deborah Ancona, and CEO of The Unlimited Mind, Tara Swart. Ancona is the Faculty Director of the MIT Leadership Center, the Seley Distinguished Professor of Management, and Professor of Organization Studies. She has published works on driving innovation within large organizations and establishing business models that encourage and grow creativity in leadership at all levels. Swart is an English neuroscientist, medical doctor, and executive leadership coach. She frequently speaks on neuroscience and business through her U.K. consulting firm, The Unlimited Mind.

This two-day course takes place on MIT’s Cambridge, MA campus November 4 – 5, 2014.
