VMware Partners with EMC, Intuit, Pivotal, Women Who Code, and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University to Offer Women Transforming Technology Conference
VMware, Inc. announced this week that it would partner with EMC, Intuit, Pivotal, Women Who Code, and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University to offer the inaugural Women Transforming Technology (wt2) Conference February 23, 2016.
The conference, for industry professionals, students, and members of the community, will be held on the VMware Palo Alto campus and will offer content targeted at a variety of roles and levels, including new career and senior levels, as well as technical and support roles. The event focus is how to tackle the lack of gender diversity in the technology industry, while creating visibility for the next generation of female technology leaders. It will include role models and foster community building in Silicon Valley for women in technology.
Arianna Huffington, co-founder, president, and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, will deliver the opening keynote, and Mary Lou Jepsen, executive director of engineering at Facebook and the head of display technologies at Oculus, will deliver the closing keynote.
Breakout sessions at the conference will feature speakers and topics relevant for women working in technology, and will be specifically tailored based on work experience, technical background, and interests:
* New career breakout sessions for those just starting out in the technology field
* Leadership breakout sessions to discuss storytelling, leadership purpose, negotiation skills, and building a diverse team
* Technical breakout sessions for attendees interested in a deep dive on cloud computing, IP, and security
* Diversity Council sessions aimed at bringing Diversity and Inclusion professionals together to discuss best practices
According to Betsy Sutter, corporate senior vice president and chief people officer at VMware, “Women continue to be under-represented in the tech sector. Internally at VMware we are focused on creating an inclusive culture that will support the community of our innovative, women technologists. We are doing this by driving change as a business strategy with business leaders. But we also believe that providing the necessary resources and networks is a critical step in shifting the pendulum to empower all women. By founding wt2, we are extending our changing culture to the wider community and aim to transform the industry as a whole.”
