UC Berkeley Faculty Teach United Arab Emirates Science of Happiness in Executive Education
The University of California Berkeley Center for Executive Education, the Haas School of Business, and the Greater Good Science Center are teaching 60 representatives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about the science of positivity to foster a culture of happiness in both work and their lifestyles.
The UC Berkeley faculty will instruct the UAE’s appointed chief happiness and positivity officers (CHPOs) from September 2016 though January 2017. The first module of the program, focused on the origins and key facets of happiness, took place September 4 – 9, 2016, in Dubai and was led by Emiliana Simon-Thomas, science director of the Greater Good Science Center, and Dacher Keltner, psychology professor.
Hana AlHashimi, happiness representative for the UAE Permanent Mission to the United Nations, pointed out that the CHPOs being taught are from a variety of fields, including the government and private sector. “The idea is that our new generation of national leaders that have been selected as chief happiness and positivity officers should be receiving world-class knowledge and practical skills in the field of happiness.” This program is one component of the UAE’s five-year National Program for Happiness and Positivity.
