Peter Hirst, who has worked at MIT Sloan School of Management for more than 10 years, was recently named Senior Associate Dean, Executive Education.

In this position, Hirst leads the team that works with faculty and clients at the MIT Sloan School of Management to develop, design, and deliver executive education programs for individuals and companies. He has over 20 years of experience in international strategy, technology consulting, academic research, and organizational development. Since he joined the staff of MIT Sloan Executive Education in 2007, it has nearly doubled in size and currently offers more than 40 open enrollment programs delivered by over 100 instructors from the Sloan School and across MIT.

Hirst has a Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, for research in plasma physics and microwave engineering. He was appointed Westminster Fellow in the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, advising MPs and Peers on policy issues in physical sciences, defense, and IT. He then served at CEO of London School of Economics’ wholly owned subsidiary, Enterprise LSE Ltd., a venture created to support the commercialization of intellectual property and academic capabilities. Hirst then moved to the United States in 2002, where he worked as a strategy consultant for UK universities, helping them establish strategic relationships in the United States.

In addition to his role at MIT Sloan, in July 2018 Hirst became the Board Chair of UNICON (International University Consortium for Executive Education), a consortium of business-school-based organizations whose members are the global reference for executive education. Its primary activities include conferences, benchmarking, research, sharing of best practices, staff development, and other network-building opportunities.

In 2012, he was named a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition of his service to British and American business and academia interests.
