NY State VA Approves GI Bill Funding for Columbia Business School Executive Education
U.S. veterans can now receive financial support for executive education programs at Columbia Business School.
While GI Bill funds could previously be used only for undergraduate or graduate degree programs, the New York State Department of Veterans Affairs’ recent approval of a request from the Business School to make funding available from the GI Bill for executive education programs allows veterans to utilize these funds for any programs that qualify for the Certificate in Business Excellence. This includes the Advanced Management Program, which is designed for senior executives with a minimum of 15 years of managerial experience who are interested in exploring new ideas, perspectives, theories, and realities, leading to greater achievement.
Michael Malefakis, Associate Dean of Executive Education at Columbia Business School, calls this “a tremendous victory for the men and women who have bravely served our country.” He notes, “As a result of their service, many veterans already possess management experience and are looking for an opportunity to acquire new skills that will help them translate what they learned in the armed forces into new opportunities in private and public sector leadership. Thanks to the Division of Veteran’s Affairs’ decision we are excited that Columbia Business School can now be a part of helping our veterans achieve their career goals.”
Lieutenant Commander Suzanne Parker, the first female Naval combat helicopter pilot, who was instrumental in gaining this approval, will be the first veteran to take advantage of it when she attends an executive education program at Columbia this fall.
