New Earth Institute at Southwestern College Offers Training for Counseling and Art Therapy

The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College offers experiential and transformational programs on innovative topics. These classes can be taken for Board approved Continuing Education Credits (CECs) by counselors, social workers, and art therapists, or for enrichment by the general public.

Students can enroll in the Transformational Eco-Psychology Certificate, which explores cross-cultural Earth-based shamanistic approaches drawn from perennial wisdom traditions and indigenous knowledge systems that speak directly to the importance of our relationship to each other and the Earth. To earn the certificate, participants must complete one core clinical course and three elective courses, and are required to take part in a traditional rite-of-passage Vision Quest or a community-based ecotherapy project.

Students will learn a framework for Earth-based healing that addresses the stresses of contemporary life, including depression, addiction, grief, and anxiety. They will also study integrative techniques for personal and collective transformation, such as story medicine, ancestor work, the medicine wheel, vision quest, dream work, and expressive arts.

Other certificate programs include:

* Applied Interpersonal Neurobiology

* Children’s Mental Health

* Human Sexuality

* Infant Mental Health

* Trauma, Grief and Renewal
