MIT’s Entrepreneurship Development Program

The Entrepreneurship Development Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a five-day executive education course designed to equip entrepreneurs, corporate venture executives, and individuals involved in entrepreneurial enterprises with the knowledge and skill set to design and execute successful, innovative businesses. Over the course of the program, participants partake in activities including lectures by senior MIT faculty members, visits to technology start-ups, meetings with successful entrepreneurs, team projects centered around business-plan development, and networking events. Through these activities, participants learn how to cultivate entrepreneurial ideas into successful businesses, to increase entrepreneurial opportunities in existing ventures.

This program is led by faculty from the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, notably, Bill Aulet, Managing Director, Fiona Murray, Faculty Director, and Edward Roberts, Founder and Chair. In addition to his role in MIT’s Entrepreneurship and Development Program, Edward Roberts was the foremost faculty member and distinguished lecturer in a custom training program ACI developed for Sampoerna, a leading tobacco company in Indonesia, which was acquired in 2005 by Philip Morris, then a subsidiary of Altria Group.

Established in 1990, the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship has been on the forefront of producing technology entrepreneurs and startup ventures for the past quarter century. An essential component of MIT’s entrepreneurial programs has been innovation, particularly innovative technologies. Joe Tree, founder and CEO of Blipfoto and a past participant of the Entrepreneurship Development Program, states in his blog (http://blog.joetree.com/2011/05/5-things-mit-taught-me-about-business/) that one of the main rewards of the program was a holistic understanding of what innovation means, particularly, that innovation is composed of invention and commercialization. He strongly indicates that “it’s not often your outlook on life changes perceptibly in five short days, but if you ever find yourself enrolled in MIT’s Entrepreneurship Development Program that’s exactly what you should expect.”

The Entrepreneurship Development Program is one of 16 Management and Leadership programs offered by MIT’s Sloan School of Management. More information for the January 26th program can be found at:
