Miami Book Fair Takes Place This Week
The Miami Book Fair, an annual event, is taking place at Miami Dade College in downtown Miami November 13 – 20, 2016. In addition to the Street Fair held November 18 – 20, 2016, there will be a variety of speakers.
Some highlights of this year’s fair include Evening events:
* James Carville, 6:00 PM Monday, November 14th – Carville guided William Jefferson Clinton to the presidency in 1992 and is a contributor to CNN and Fox. In his book We’re Still Right, They’re Still Wrong: The Democrats’ Case for 2016, he analyzes the 2016 presidential campaign.
* Alan Cumming, 8:00 PM Monday, November 14th – Cumming, an award-winning actor, discusses You Gotta Get Bigger Dreams: My Life in Stories and Pictures, which includes 45 picture-essays recounting his real-life adventures.
* Tavis Smiley, 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 16th – Smiley, currently the host of the late-night television talk show Tavis Smiley on PBS, as well as the Tavis Smiley Show and Smiley & West on Public Radio International. He has been honored as one of Time magazine’s “The World’s 100 Most Influential People.”
* Annette Gordon-Reed and Peter S. Onuf, 6:00 PM Thursday, November 17th – Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning historian Annette Gordon-Reed and Jefferson scholar Peter S. Onuf are authors of Most Blessed of the Patriarchs: Thomas Jefferson and the Empire of the Imagination.
* Jeffrey Toobin, 8:00 PM Thursday, November 17th – Toobin is an esteemed expert on politics, media, and the law. His bestsellers include The Nine, The Oath, Too Close to Call, A Vast Conspiracy, and The Run of His Life, which was adapted into the critically acclaimed FX series The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
* National Book Award Winners and Finalists, 6:00 PM Friday, November 18th – Each author will prepare a short reading and will answer one question following the reading.
* Senator Bernie Sanders, 6:30 PM Saturday, November 19th – Senator Sanders will share personal experiences from the campaign trail, and will outline a progressive economic, environmental, racial, and social justice agenda aiming to create jobs, raise wages, protect the environment, and provide healthcare for all.
Autographing sessions will be held with various authors, including Senator Bernie Sanders, Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, and Senator Bob Graham, America, the Owner’s Manual: Making Government Work for You.
