Learn or Die: How to Win the Innovation Game, New University of Virginia Darden Program
The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business is offering a new open enrollment program dedicated to helping executives develop innovation skills. Learn or Die: How to Win the Innovation Game, based on Edward Hess’s book Learn or Die: Using Science to Build a Leading-Edge Learning Organization, which discusses advances in psychology, behavioral economics, and neuroscience and combines those with research on high-performance businesses, will focus on how to create the right environment to empower innovation mind-sets and behaviors within the organization.
Participants in this program will:
– Create a personal Innovator’s Development Plan based on the results of an Individual Innovation Behaviors Assessment
– Understand the enablers of a learning environment and how to create a team, business unit, or organizational innovation system improvement plan derived from an Innovation System Assessment
– Implement critical thinking processes, learning checklists, and tools
– Use critical thinking and experimentation tools to improve innovative capabilities
– Understand how innovation occurs and how to mitigate the natural cognitive and emotional inhibitors of innovation
– Know how to better manage oneself through mindfulness, use metacognition, quiet the ego, be open-minded, manage emotions, and be empathetic
Faculty members will lead discussions based on case studies of top companies, including IDEO, Intuit, Bridgewater Associates, W.L. Gore & Associates, and Pixar. They will also lead action-learning workshops in which participants can interact with and learn from peers.
