Harvard Business School to Launch Short Executive Education Courses for Business Leaders in India

Harvard Business School (HBS) plans to hold a 1½-day executive education training program for 1,000 next generation business leaders in India. In addition, the school will launch focused, need-based programs to take learning from small classrooms to larger groups of up to 20,000 students.

The first program will be held in Bengaluru next year. According to Frances Frei, Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education at Harvard Business School, the program faculty will be HBS experts, startup founders from Bengaluru, and HBS alumni who are serial entrepreneurs. She added, “One of the things we want to do is called HBS Global. We will go to international cities to give them an experience of HBS. The first one of these we will be running in India, where we are targeting about 1,000 startups to go through a 1½-day executive education program in Bengaluru.”

While most HBS executive education programs are five to seven days long, the new programs will offer a mix of both formats. “We want to go from small classrooms to bigger conclaves and India and China will always be our first choices,” Frei said. “Those are our first ideas and we will do it by July 2017. We want to have more focused need-based programs; that is why Bengaluru and startups are offered initially. It is an unbelievable hub and if we don’t do that, we are probably ignoring the Indian context,” she said.

In addition, for the first time, HBS is giving alumni status to members of an executive education program running in India on senior executive leadership. It also plans to extend alumni status to programs run in other countries.
