Financial Times Ranks 2014 Executive Education Programs
Financial Times has released its 2014 rankings for open enrollment and customized executive education programs. Of the 95 schools that took part in the 2014 survey, these are the top open enrollment institutions:
1. IMD
2. University of Chicago: Booth
3. HEC Paris
3. University of Virginia: Darden
5. INSEAD
6. IESE Business School
6. Harvard Business School
8. Stanford Graduate School of Business
9. ESADE Business School
9. Center for Creative Leadership
In order to participate in the ranking, schools must be internationally accredited and have earned revenues of at least $2 million from their open enrollment or customized programs in 2013. Rankings use data from providers and participants in management programs. Schools submit one or two general management programs that are at least three days long, as well as one or two advanced programs that are at least five days long. In order for a school to be in the final ranking, at least 20% of the program participants must complete the survey, with a minimum of 20 responses. Approximately 6,500 participants (40% of those contacted) completed the 2014 survey, rating program elements on a 10-point scale. Participant rankings make up 80% of the ranking, and school data account for the remaining 20%.
Criteria rated by participants include preparation, course design, teaching methods and materials, faculty, quality of participants, new skills and learning, follow-up, aims achieved, food and accommodation, and facilities. Data provided by schools include female participant percentage, international participants percentage, international location, partner schools, faculty diversity, and open enrollment revenues.
Here are the top providers of customized executive education programs:
1. Duke Corporate Education
2. HEC Paris
3. IESE Business School
4. Center for Creative Leadership
5. IMD
6. ESADE Business School
7. Cranfield School of Management
8. Stanford Graduate School of Business
9. University of North Carolina: Kenan-Flagler
9. London Business School
For customized programs, rankings are calculated based on information provided by the schools themselves, as well as by organizations that utilized programs in 2013. Clients are nominated by the school and complete an online questionnaire about the program. At least five clients must complete the survey in order for a school to be eligible for the final ranking. Clients select a program type (strategic, general, or functional) and responses are weighed by program type, with strategic programs having the highest weighting. The seniority of the individual completing the questionnaire, the size of the organization, and the number of schools who have utilized custom courses over the past three years also factor into the ranking. Approximately 1,100 clients (55% of those invited) completed surveys this year. Client responses to 10 criteria make up 80% of the ranking, and school data account for the remaining 20%. Responses from the previous two years are used in each ranking, when available (40% from 2014, 33% from 2013, 27% from 2012). If only one year of previous information is available, the weighting is 55% from 2014 and 45% from 2013. Schools that are ranked in both the open enrollment and custom lists are eligible for the combined overall ranking.
Criteria provided by clients include preparation, program design, teaching methods and materials, faculty, new skills and learning, follow-up, aims achieved, facilities, value for money, and future use. Data provided by schools include international clients percentage, international participants, overseas programs, partner schools, faculty diversity, total responses from clients, and custom revenues.
