Educational Technology Trends Shaping Business Education
EdTechXEurope, the leading thought leader summit for investors, innovators, and industry influencers, recently hosted its fourth event, showcasing educational technology innovations. The top five trends in the field are artificial intelligence (AI), big data, virtual reality (VR), mobile first, and blended learning.
The world’s top online learning platforms are working with business schools, including Duke Fuqua School of Business and Yale School of Management, to offer advanced analytical tools that help refine and enhance student learning. In addition, Stanford Graduate School of Business and MIT Sloan have begun utilizing virtual reality. According to Peter Hirst, Associate Dean of Executive Education at MIT Sloan, “The next generation of VR — that’s going to replace the traditional notion of sitting in front of a computer.”
Here is more information on the top trends.
* Artificial intelligence – The power of AI allows educators to learn from their students, helping lecturers make better decisions and perhaps improving retention rates. In addition, AI could help online learners self-assess, increase connectivity in global classrooms, and create social simulation.
* Big data – Big data can help learners find the right courses, customize them to their needs, and keep them on the right track.
* Virtual reality – Still in its early stage, virtual reality could have a big impact on education.
* Mobile first – With handheld devices becoming increasingly popular, mobile is becoming the platform of choice for learning. According to Julie Stiglitz at Coursera, more than 50% of Coursera users already learn through mobile devices. INSEAD launched a mobile learning platform for business in 2015. According to Peter Zemsky, INSEAD Head of Innovation, “Being a leader in digital management education in general is increasingly important, especially as business schools are teaching [students] how to adapt to changing technologies.”
* Blended learning – Utilizing a combination of classroom and online learning is still common. William Lamb, Dean of Babson College’s School of Business, notes, “Blended is an important approach because it allows us to provide flexibility, but to still have an intimate, high-touch environment.”
