Columbia Global Center Holds Engaging with the World Humanitarian Summit Panel in Istanbul
Istanbul will host the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit (WHS), a global call to action by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to address the suffering of millions affected by the humanitarian crisis, on May 23 – 24, 2016. Prior to the WHS, Columbia Global Centers – Istanbul is bringing together specialists from Turkey who have been involved in preparation for the Summit. They will take part in a panel discussion on April 27, 2016, 14:00 – 18:00, on topics including:
* Goals of the WHS and why the Agenda for Humanity matters for Turkey and the international community
* Why and how the current humanitarian aid system needs to change
* How local governments, the private sector, civil society, and the UN are responding to the rapidly changing humanitarian landscape
* Turkey’s role in global humanitarian assistance and how has it been engaged with the WHS.
