Cigna Foundation Making a Difference Since 1962

Established in 1962, the Cigna Foundation carries out the corporate philanthropy goals of bringing Cigna’s mission to life for communities and individuals through strategically focused charitable grants to nonprofit organizations that enhance the well-being of their communities.

Cigna’s giving program targets and identifies organizations that bring innovative solutions to life in the area of health equity. The Cigna Foundation World of Difference Grants are collaborations with nonprofits that pursue projects aimed at helping people overcome barriers to health and well-being, such as gender, race, age, or place of residence. In 2015, these grants totaled $2,463,629 and assisted 14 organizations, impacting 50,000+ individuals.

To support employees in their volunteer efforts, Cigna Foundation offers eligible employees up to eight hours of paid time per year for volunteering for leading nonprofit organizations. In addition to the World of Difference Grants, the Cigna Foundation offers Cigna employees Healthy Lifestyle Grants that allow them to direct a $100 grant to a charity whenever they take part in certain organized physical activities, and the Grants for Givers program directs $200 to organizations where employees regularly volunteer. Additionally, the Foundation matches, dollar for dollar, donations made by employees, up to $5,000 annually per person.

Cigna is also committed to sound environmental sustainability policies, with 2015 accomplishments including:

* Increasing 15 LEED® certified properties in its domestic real estate portfolio

* Growing to 39 sites enrolled in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program

* Becoming a partner in the Department of Energy’s Workplace Charging Challenge and installing 12 electric vehicle charging stations at its Connecticut headquarters

* Implementing a greenhouse gas inventory management and third-party emissions verification process to support 2017 energy and emissions targets
