The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices ranked Cigna first in the health care providers and services industry for excellence in corporate sustainability leadership for the second consecutive year. This is the fourth straight year Cigna has been named to the indices, which include the Dow Jones Sustainability TM World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America).

Cigna’s score of 79 leads the health care providers and services industry sector, which averaged 28 overall. Cigna rated especially high in code of business conduct, supply chain management, environmental reporting, human capital development, partnerships towards sustainable healthcare, privacy protection, occupational health and safety, and marketing practices. In the 2019 DJSI World, CVS Health Corp., Anthem Inc, DaVita Inc., and Humana Inc. joined Cigna in the top five.

Cigna Connects, Cigna’s environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) framework, reflects its commitments and societal impact. The DJSI highlights the company’s focus on “building connections to improve societal health and wellbeing, contribute to a healthy environment, and deploy inclusive business practices.” Report highlights include:

* COVID-19 response – Cigna waived the cost of COVID-19 testing and treatment for all customers, launched a program to safeguard customers from surprise bills from out-of-network providers for COVID-19 care, and introduced a plan to provide prescription-drug relief to Americans who are newly uninsured due to the pandemic.

* Brave of Heart Fund – In partnership with New York Life, this provides financial and emotional support to families of healthcare workers who lost their lives to COVID-19.

* Healthier Kids for Our Future – Cigna committed $25 million to this five-year global initiative dedicated to improving children’s health and well-being.

* Building Equity and Equality Program – This five-year initiative aims to expand and accelerate Cigna’s support of diversity, inclusion, equality, and equity for communities of color.

Mary Tullis Engvall, Senior Director, Corporate Responsibility, Cigna, says, “Positively impacting the health of people, communities, and the environment is at the center of our mission, and we’re proud to again be recognized as the industry leader by DJSI for Cigna’s commitment to making a difference and serving as a catalyst of action.”
