Executive Education News: Columbia University Earth Institute Center for Environmental Sustainability to Offer Environmental Economics Program
In September 2016, the Earth Institute Center for Environmental Sustainability at Columbia University will offer an executive education course, Environmental Economics, to be held in two-hour sessions on Tuesday evenings (September 6, 13, 20, 27, and October 4, 2016).
The program will provide an introduction to environmental economics, including basic principles of microeconomics as they apply to environmental issues. Class discussion and case study will be used to illustrate ways economics can guide conservation practice and policy, as well as to review solutions to market failures, such as taxes and subsidies, fees and quotas, and tradable emissions permits such as carbon markets.
Urvashi Kaul, RFK Compass Education Manager at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and Adjunct Assistant Professor of International Public Affairs at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, will be the instructor for this program. At RFK Compass, she helps develop programs to encourage the investment community to include sustainability as an integral part of their strategies. She also teaches graduate-level courses in economics, finance, and sustainable development.
