Arizona State University School of Sustainability Celebrates 10 Years

The Arizona State University (ASU) School of Sustainability, established in 2006, was the first school of sustainability in the United States, and has for 10 years been educating scholars and practitioners and bringing together leaders, stakeholders, and people from multiple disciplines to develop practical solutions to the most pressing sustainability challenges.

The school celebrated this milestone with events in April 2016, including a Celebration of Sustainability @ ASU Festival and a 10th anniversary community service project helping the Escalante Community Garden build a sustainable water harvesting feature system.

The ASU School of Sustainability offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including online offerings and a hybrid online/in-person Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership. The courses focus on sustainability, which Chris Boone, Dean of the School of Sustainability, defines as, “improving human well-being and ensuring social equity for present and future generations while safeguarding the planet’s life-supporting ecosystems.”

The School holds sustainability-focused events, including an upcoming Webinar on Wasted Food, Challenges and Opportunities in Partnerships and Consumer Behavior Change, which will take place May 25th, 10:15 – 11:45 AM Mountain time. It is also home to the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, which conducts research and advances education and business practices for an urbanizing world. It also provides leadership and coordination for university sustainability initiatives.
